The brief

The family needed a primary suite and a real family room without losing the two specimen oaks or the character of the original house.

How we built it

  1. 01

Engineered a structural tie-in that avoided the root protection zones of both trees.

  2. 02

Matched roof pitch and eave detail, then flashed the transition as a single continuous plane.

  3. 03

Reused the original window proportions in the new wing so the elevation stayed quiet.

  4. 04

Kept the existing house occupied and conditioned through the entire tie-in.

Outcome

The addition passed final inspection on the first visit and the oaks came through the build intact.
